BlackBerry Enterprise Server

A centralized link to the wireless networks and handhelds
BlackBerry Enterprise Server is installed behind the corporate firewall and tightly integrates with your organization's Microsoft® Exchange messaging platform and other corporate application servers. It provides a centralized link to the wireless networks and handhelds and offers integrated security, management and push technology.

Leverages Existing Infrastructure
Your company has invested time and money into your existing information system, so your wireless solution should work with the infrastructure you already have.

BlackBerry Enterprise Server is a Windows® NT service and utilizes the Microsoft Exchange information store to consolidate all email and messages and configuration details in the users' central mailboxes.

The BlackBerry platform also works with existing data stores and applications through the Mobile Data Service (MDS) feature of BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

Manages End-to-End Connectivity
BlackBerry Enterprise Server communicates with BlackBerry handhelds and/or devices enabled with BlackBerry connectivity over the wireless network(s) through a secure Internet connection from behind the firewall. It monitors BlackBerry users' Exchange mailboxes for email, pushes data out to end users, and also manages data requests, messages and calendar items from the handheld.

Advanced Security
BlackBerry Enterprise Server provides advanced security features to meet strict enterprise requirements for information integrity and confidentiality:

Data remains encrypted at all points between the handheld and the BlackBerry Enterprise Server with end-to-end Triple DES encryption.
BlackBerry Enterprise Server requires an outbound-only initiated and authenticated connection through port 3101.
IT administrators can set and enforce organization/workgroup wide security policies such as mandatory passwords and password configuration.

Multi-Network, Application and Device Support
One BlackBerry Enterprise Server supports multiple devices, applications and networks.

Supports all BlackBerry handhelds, regardless of network technology or service provider.
Can support a variety of other mobile devices from participating manufacturers through the BlackBerry Connect™ License Program under which relationships have been announced with Nokia, PalmSource, Samsung, Symbian and HTC.
Integrates with enterprise application servers and the Microsoft Exchange messaging platform.
Supports all major networks globally: GSM/GPRS, Nextel, CDMA2000 1xRTT, Mobitex and DataTAC.

Highly Extensible
The Mobile Data Service feature of BlackBerry Enterprise Server works with existing corporate data stores and enterprise applications, such as field service and sales force automation, field data collection, business intelligence and document management systems, allowing organizations to easily extend this information wirelessly.

Enables always-on/push-based, secure access to applications and information beyond email.
Leverages the trusted end-to-end security model, delivery mechanism, push architecture and management/administrative features of BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

Important Information Finds Your Mobile Users
With BlackBerry push technology, information finds the user - fast. Since BlackBerry handhelds are designed to remain continuously connected to the wireless network, users don't have to initiate data exchange and download. This push capability is fundamental to increasing users' productivity.

The BlackBerry push model eliminates the effort that users exert to pull information. It enables mobile professionals to maintain a virtual presence in the workplace, with access to important corporate information, email, attachments, address book lookups and calendar appointments while on the go.

Productivity Enhancements for End Users
BlackBerry Enterprise Server enables several enhancements for mobile professionals to help them stay productive:

Wireless email reconciliation - Message status (including read, unread, deletes and folder moves) is updated wirelessly.
Remote Address Lookup - Users can search and interact with the Global Address List (GAL) remotely.
Integrated Attachment Viewing - Excel, Word, PowerPoint, PDF, WordPerfect & ASCII files can all be natively viewed on the handheld.
Wireless calendar synchronization - Calendar appointments and meeting requests are updated wirelessly without requiring user intervention.
